What happens when we sit so far down?
Physical inactivity is the fourth biggest source of the rise in global mortality [1]. Sitting, in general, isn't bad, it's not at all helpful, but it's unnecessary sitting!
While modern office furniture is fitted with ergonomic chairs, one still needs to stand between work. Some workplaces insist on standing even for long hours. But prolonged standing also causes health problems, such as sore legs and swelling of the legs, and pain in the back and neck. The point here is to operate in a sit-and-stand manner. Many companies are taking the extra mile to give their employees the option of sitting or standing workstations. In countries such as Denmark, every worker has the choice of applying for a permanent desk, that is the rule!
